Deep tissue massage is mainly used to treat musculoskeletal issues, such as acute sprains or strains and can be used for chronic tension as well. It involves applying sustained pressure using slow, deep strokes to target the inner layers of your muscles and connective tissues. If you have just had an injury it is generally best to wait a couple of days to a week afterward to receive your treatment. Deep tissue massage helps to break up scar tissue that forms following an injury and reduce tension in muscle and tissue. It may also promote faster healing by increasing blood flow and reducing inflammation. Deep tissue massage can be an uncomfortable modality depending on your nervous system and how your body reacts. It is important to know that there is not one pressure that relates to deep tissue, but that it varies between person to person and their nervous system. This is why communication between you and your therapist is important to get the treatment that is right for you. It is important to drink lots of water and to apply heat to affected areas post treatment to encourage recovery to it's full potential and to reduce muscle soreness.

If you suffer from sore muscles or the feeling of knots in your back, therapeutic massage techniques specifically target this discomfort to restore your body back to a state of better mobility and reduced tension. The goal of a therapeutic massage is to treat a health issue, rather than simply helping you to relax. Many people describe therapeutic massage as a “good pain” that helps relieve the ailment they are suffering from. You may experience tenderness as your therapist works through your tissue. My therapeutic practice incorporates some aspects of deep tissue massage such as trigger point work, and passive or resistive stretching techniques. It is important to drink lots of water and to apply heat to affected areas post treatment to encourage recovery to it's full potential and to reduce muscle soreness for the next day or two.

Cupping Treatment

Cupping is an ancient technique where a therapist puts cups on your skin from a few seconds to minutes to create suction on the superficial tissue. The idea is to draw blood to or away from parts of your body in order to affect connective tissue. The idea is to draw blood to or away from parts of your body in order to affect connective tissue. People use cupping for many reasons, such as pain and inflammation relief, increase in range of motion, decrease of tension, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage.

I like to incorporate both dynamic and static cupping. Dynamic is where the cups are moved along the muscle lines to increase length and health of that tissue in areas of restriction. Static is where cups are placed and are not moving on your body, but you may be actively moving your tissue to facilitate the treatment. Cupping encourages blood flow through suction and can often leave circular bruising patterns that can last for a couple of days to a week. Lots of water and heat post treatment is also recommended to help you get the most out of your treatment.

Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Massage

This 30 minute massage begins by releasing the muscles in your chest, shoulders, neck, upper back and face to reduce the tension of muscles that surround and affect the temporomandibular joint space. Often, a TMJ massage will involve intraoral methods as well. To do this, I will wear gloves and massage the inside of your mouth between your cheeks and teeth, and sometimes the area under your ton... Read More

Often, a TMJ massage will involve intraoral methods as well. To do this, I will wear gloves and massage the inside of your mouth between your cheeks and teeth, and sometimes the area under your tongue. These techniques work to alleviate jaw tension that can cause misaligned jaw pain, headaches, upper back and neck dysfunction in the body.

RAPID NeuroFascial Reset, is a neurologically based, active, therapeutic technique that addresses the central nervous system’s role in alleviating tension and restrictions within the body. RAPID is a different type of treatment than most practices at a massage clinic. Typically sessions are 30 minutes and you are fully clothed for the treatment. RAPID is done by applying pressure to the periosteum (tissue layer around your bones) and facilitating active movements that work to reprogram your body’s relation to the brain to improve tissue function in specific areas. It is great for increasing range of motion and reducing pain quickly. It is important to note that RAPID can be a uncomfortable modality as the practice works on sensitive nervous tissue.

Some of the conditions that can be resolved with RAPID-NFR include: Headaches/Migraines, Back pain, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Shoulder pain, Tennis/Golfers Elbow, Whiplash, TMJ, Frozen shoulder.

Using nociception and movement, RAPID induces a combination of descending inhibition within the nervous system, and a powerful increase in vasodilation. These together offer near immediate and lasting pain reduction in patients.

Myofascial release focuses on relieving pain in your myofascial tissues. These are the thick connective tissues that support your muscles. Your myofascial tissue is a network of tissue that spreads throughout your entire body. It connects your muscles, joints, and bones. It also provides support to your organs, helping to keep them in place.‌

Usually this tissue feels elastic and movable. Tight myofascial tissue can restrict movement in your muscles and joints. As you move differently to make up for the loss in movement, you can cause additional tightness without realizing it. This can lead to widespread pain and discomfort. Myofascial treatment aims to focus on this tissue using dry techniques without the use of lotion that spread and pull to unravel fascial restrictions in the body

Relaxation Massage

Relaxation massage employs a therapeutic approach characterized by smooth, flowing strokes aimed at fostering relaxation and diminishing stress. Relaxation massage serves to calm the nervous system, improve blood circulation, and release muscle tension in a comfortable space.
